1953 Midnight Trial

The Midnight Trial was organised by the Victorian Sporting Car Club and was conducted on the night of July 11th.

Night trials were relatively rare at the time, so an “all night” trial was something different. The event was directed by Leo Drill and Neal Charge and was won by was won by newcomers Harley Mehegan and Maurie Nelson in a Holden.

Route

Starting from Olympic Park, the event was conducted mostly on the Mornington Peninsula. Controls were at Bangholme, Mt Eliza, Mooraduc, Merricks North, Boneo, Arthurs Seat, Hampden Park, Sage’s Corner, Mooroolbark. The finish was at the club’s Templestowe Hillclimb.
