The Holdens finally broke the dominance of the Ford factory team in 1966. Tony Roberts and Peter Haas won the Victorian Trials Championship in their X2 Holden and also won the annual BP Rally and Alpine Rally.
While the 1965 champions, Firth and Hoinville were successful in the Derrick, Roberts and Haas won the Begonia, Akademos, North Eastern and Cooper Memorial, and placed second in the Derrick to take out the championship. Their closest rivals were team-mates Reg Lunn and Geoff Thomas who placed consistently, including a win in the Two Day Trial, but retired on the final round.
