The Camcrusher Rally was held on 30 November.
VCS Round 9 – 1974 FFCC Camcrusher Rally
Jeff Beaumont’s story …
The popular Camcrusher Rally was directed by Ian Swan, ably assisted by Bob Buck and Roger Curran. The 300 km event started and finished at Bonnie Doon, with a break at Benalla and ran in the relatively small area in between.
Although they only finished in fifth place, Rob Dyer and Graham Wallace were confirmed as winners of this year’s hard fought, nine round Clubman Series, after their main rivals also failed to gain enough points in the final round.
Ian Nalder and Paul Paterson continued their fine form by taking honours in the Camcrusher, the final round of this year’s Clubman Series.
In second place was Alf and Ian Pearce, followed by the North East crew of Ken Stone and Mike Rebbechi in their 2000 Cortina. Next home were Mike Baxter and Tom Cox in their Cortina, in fourth place.
For the first stage, competitors were supplied with a marked-up map of the route through the Strathbogies and Reef Hills.
Bob Waterhouse / Bill Johnson were quickest on the first stage but passed through a passage without stopping. In the dusty conditions, they failed to see the control board or the official!
Wayne Muldoon / John Parkinson had a nervous moment when a stub axle broke on their Datsun 1600 and they ground to a stop.
After the Division break at Benalla, it was a return run back to Bonnie Doon, via Warrenbayne and Strathbogie Forests.
Ian Nalder and Paul Paterson had dominated the rally but it was a pretty close battle behind them for top placings.
