1974 Otway Trial

The Otway Trial was held on March 16.

VCS Round 2 – 1974 WDCC Otway Trial

Jeff Beaumont tells the story….

Rally Director Laurie Sorahan had set the Otway Trial with a bias towards driving but this didn’t keep navigators out of trouble, with plenty of points lost on some of the trickier sections.

Staring from Geelong, the competitive sections were out around Colac where a number of cars got bogged in the deep, sandy conditions.

At the half way point Pender / Baldock had a slight from lead from first round winners Rob Dyer / Graham Wallis, who went on to drop a bunch of points in the second Division and drop to fifth.

Mike Baxter and Tom Cox in the ex George Fury Cortina put up a strong final sector and finished equal on points with the winners, but were relegated to second place on a count back.
