The Shamateur One, organised by the Light Car Club of Australia, was held on 2 February.
Directed by Ian Richards, the event was a closed to club special stage rally designed for average club members and not requiring any special vehicle modifications. This differed from many club events of the era, which typically required successful navigation using maps, by appealing to drivers who wanted the event outcome to be predominantly determined by driver skill and speed.
