1975 Summer Safari

The Summer Safari was held on February 15.

VCS Round 1 – 1975 PCCV Summer Safari

The first round of the 1975 VCS was the Peugeot Car Club’s Summer Safari and was run in the areas north west of Bendigo in dry and dusty conditions. The difficulty of this Safari was evidenced by the relatively high points scores.

A feature of the event was the consistent use of “shortest mapped route overall“, which certainly kept the navigators on their toes. A deep, unexpected washaway caused the abrupt retirement of several crews.

Doug Irish had planned a busy year, with entries in both the VRC and the Clubman series, in his Gil Davis prepared XU-1 Torana.

Sam Hutchison and Ray Hartnell won the event after Doug Irish and Ian Ellis missed a somewhat disputed passage control.

At the finish two crews lodged protests but they were instantly dismissed when the stewards advised that the protest fees that had been paid were incorrect! Subsequently protests were successfully lodged and some were upheld.
