1979 Experts Trial

The Experts Trial, organised by the Light Car Club, was held on July 14.

Directed by Stuart Lister, this was the first Experts to not be a round of the Victorian Rally Championship since its inception in 1961. The VRC had moved to being a predominantly driver oriented series and there was no place for a navigationally challenging event such as the Experts. On the other hand, with the Experts as a non-championship “open” event, it allowed Mr. Lister to set a very demanding event.

Honours went to the dominant crew of the time, Geoff Portman and Ross Runnalls, but other top navigators, Paul Paterson, Geoff Boyd, Tony Best, Jim Maude and Noel Kelly, all featured in the results.
