1980 BF Goodrich Rallysprint

The BF Goodrich Rallysprint, organised by CCRMIT, was held on 16 March.

A rallysprint is in effect a condensed rally – held over a limited number of short stages, typically with each used more than once. In this event, two short stages were used twice.

For reasons yet to be understood, the official results were determined by timing to the nearest minute. Times to the second were recorded but the seconds weren’t used for event scoring.

The official results were that Chris Brown/Simon Brown and Bob Watson/Phil Rainer tied for first on 6 points each and Steve Ashton/Ro Nixon and David Adams/Chris Randell tied for second on 7 points each. If scoring had been to the nearest second, Bob Watson would have beaten Chris Brown by 3 seconds and David Adams would have beaten Steve Ashton by 22 seconds.
