The Shamateur III, organised by the Light Car Club of Australia, was a club event held on 30 August. Directed by Frank Grant, this was an event for novice crews (grade 4). While grade 3 crews were permitted to enter, they weren’t eligible for outright placings.
The winners were Roberts/Morey in a Hillman Hunter with Abnett/York second in a Ford and Warneke/Melick third in a Gnomemobile (see photo). The winners of grade 3 were Stuart Lister/Helen McGinty. If grade 3 competitors had been included in outright results, Roberts/Morey would still have finished a commendable second.
