The 1980 VCS was closely fought with six different winners across the seven rounds. Dennis Billings and Steve Ellis emerged victorious with two wins and two third places in their Datsun 1600.

A brief set of Standing Regulations was included in the Victorian Addendum to the Australian Rally Code. Points were scored for the first six places, as per the VRC, 9-6-4-3-2-1 with th best five results to count.
