The Introductory Rally, organised by the Chrysler Owners Car Club of Victoria, was held on 28 November in the Mt Disappointment State Forest. This was a club event and we don’t yet have any further information other than the event being notable for one of the rare deaths during a car rally in Victoria.
Kaye Mayer, 28 years old and from Melbourne, was co-driver to Dave Peters in a Mini Moke. The vehicle rolled on Harry’s Nose East Rd and the petrol cap was knocked off. Kaye was doused in petrol and fire started, resulting in burns to 80% of her body.
Kaye never recovered and succumbed to infections resulting from her burns two months after the accident, on 3 February 1982 in hospital. After her death, the COCCV and the Victorian rally community created a trust fund which provided financial support for Kaye’s two children until they had finished their schooling
