The 1982 VRC was closely fought with four different winners across the eight rounds. But Chris Brown and Noel Richards tied up the championship with one round to go, with three wins, a second, and a third.

The Grade 2 Award went to Graeme Wise and John Williams who had a close season long tussle with both Steve Ashton (with three different navigators) and Peter Thompson / Jim Maude.

Brian Smith and Peter Mignot were clear winners of the Clubman Award, with five wins.

Series Regulations

It is assumed that 1982 regulations were the same as 1981 (see Section 6A of the 1981 Victorian Addendum to the Australian Rally Code).

The VRC was made up exclusively of Special Stage events. This was the third year that only Special Stage events were included and the second year when “elapsed timing” was used, in accordance with Section 5 of the 1981 Victorian Addendum to the Australian Rally Code.

Awards were made for outright champions, Grade 2 (non Grade 1, so Grade 3 and 4 could score points also) and Clubman (Grades 3 and 4 only).

In each division points were allocated 9-6-4-3-2-1 for first to sixth with the best five results to count.
