Chris Wall and Trevor Boyd started the year by winning the first VTC round, the Summer Safari, setting the scene for their overall result. They went into the final event, the George Derrick, 5 points ahead of both of the leading grade 3 crews, David Mitchell/Greg Matheson and Rob Devenish/Phil Wylie and sealed the championship by winning that epic event.
Mitchell/Matheson finished third in the George Derrick to cement second place in the overall Championship and win both the State Recognised and Clubman championships. Devenish/Wylie could manage only 7th in the George Derrick, allowing Gary Grealy and Geoff Byron, who finished 4th, to catch them in the Outright Championships with both crews ending up equal 3rd. However, Devenish/Wylie still prevailed for 2nd place in the State Recognised and Clubman championships, with Grealy/Byron 3rd.
