1987 Maldon Rallysprint

The Carpart Recyclers Maldon Rallysprint, organised by the Light Car Club of Australia -Bendigo Branch, was held on 22 March.

The rallysprint was conducted over a short course with a practice run in each direction then two competitive runs in each direction. The results were determined by the total of the best times in each direction.

Entry was by invitation only. The Bendigo club has a long history in off road competition both at its Bendigo property and running the Sea Lake Mallee Rally.  These strong connections lead to the event being open to both rally cars (Group G and PRC) and off road vehicles (Group F). 

Geoff Portman with Peter Gale in the Datsun 1600 won by 0.4 seconds from Dinta and Kate Officer with Allan Johnson coming in a very credible 3rd as an indication of things to come.

The highest placed off road vehicle crew were Murray Rogers and Karl Enderl a further 9 seconds back. The short course had two 90 degree bends that didn’t favour off road buggies.
