1988 Victorian Trials Series (prev. Championship)

In 1988, CAMS permit fees were higher for rallies that were a round of a “championship” than for non-championship rallies. To reduce the cost to organisers and ultimately competitors, the Victorian Trials Championship was consequently renamed the Victorian Trials Series. For consistency, we have continued to call it the VTC in most contexts!

Series Regulations

These were specified in VTC Standing Regulations, the copy here being provided by Stuart Lister (VTC Standing Regulations).

The 1988 VTC was made up a variety of events comprising varying degrees of navigation.

Awards were made for outright champions, Grade 2 (= all but Grade 1 competitors), Grade 3 (= all but Grades 1 & 2), Grade 4 (Novice) (for the first time this year) and first Production Rally Car crew.

Consistent with the the VRC, in each division points were allocated 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 for first to tenth with all results to count for four or less events and with one or more results dropped if more than four rounds were competed in.

Events

There were five VTC events. Originally the William Harvey Memorial Trial was calendared as the final round but it appears that it was cancelled and replaced by the Western Lion Trial (or renamed), also conducted by the Peugeot Car Club.
