The Western Lion Trial, organised by the Peugeot Car Club of Victoria, was held on December 3. Directed by Graham Wallis and Nick Wright, the Western Lion Trial was initially only the final round of the Western Region Trial Series but was added to the Victorian Trials Championship (Series) after the cancellation of the Summer Safari. The event was conducted in the Mount Cole area with straightforward map reading.

The event was won by Warwick Smith and Paul Paterson in their Lancer.
Second place and first in the WRTS round were Brian Semmens and Dan Parry in their Corolla.
