Year in review

Highlights

The Victorian Trials Championship was won by Bob Watson and Jim McAuliffe in their Renault R16TS.

Australian Rally Championship

Victoria hosted the first round and the final round of the Australian Rally Championship, the Classic Rally and the Alpine Rally respectively. Both were won by Frank Kilfoyle and Doug Rutherford in their Ford Lotus Cortina. They also won the Warana Rally in Queensland and so were the 1969 Australian Champions.

Other Open Events

Several clubs opted to conduct open events that were not part of the state series.

The Ballarat Light Car Club ran its annual Begonia Trial as an open event.

The fairly new Central Victorian Car Club ran its Midlander Trial as an open event with hopes of achieving VTC status, which they did some years later.

The Victorian Sporting Car Club continued to run its Midnight Trial in addition to the Blue Ribbon.

The Huntingdale Auto Club apparently ran its Maroondah Rally, Winter Trial and Invitation Trial all as open events.

A memorial event was the Midyear Rally, conducted by the Monash Sporting Car Club as an open restricted event.

The Car Club of RMIT again ran its Presidents Trial as at the end of the season.

Closed Events

The number of closed events continued to grow as existing and new clubs became more active in rallying.

The Melbourne University Car Club again ran three closed events, the Summer Trial, the Commencement Rally and the Winter Trial.

The Car Club of RMIT ran three closed events, namely the Novice Trial, the Autumn Midnight Trial and the Amateur Trial

More closed events are listed in the calendar below.
