1962 Caltex Begonia Rally

The Caltex Begonia Rally, organised by the Ballarat Light Car Club, was conducted on March 3.

1962 VTC Round 1 – Caltex Begonia Rally won by Ford Anglia

According to the report in Australian Motor Sports, this was the first time the Begonia had state championship status, and the directors set a fair but demanding course stretching over 600 miles and over 20 hours. Kevin Lott and Bob Forsyth emerged victors in their works Ford Anglia. 

The event was marred by a fatal accident when Bendigo driver, Ron Blabey, was killed when his Porsche powered VW rolled early in the event
