The slowest start ever for a decade
In a sense the new decade began at the end of 2019 with the cancellation of Rally Australia due to catastrophic bush fires. Whether Rally Australia returns remains an open question. Then early in 2020 Covid-19 found its way to Australia, and before long lockdowns and closure of state borders impacted many sports, including rallying. Many rallies were cancelled in 2020 and some in 2021. The Australian Rally Championship was unable to be awarded in either year. The Victorian Championship was also unable to be completed in 2020 but managed to be declared in 2021. The Classic Outback Trial was postponed from 2020, initially to 2021 and then again to 2022. Continuing uncertainty also saw the 2021 Alpine Rally of East Gippsland postponed to 2022.
A reasonable degree of normality returned by 2022.
For the rest of the decade, we will have to wait and see ….
