1963 Akademos Trial

The 1963 Akademos was held on June 15.

1963 VTC Round ? – MUCC Akademos Trial

The 1963 Akademos Trial was described as the “hell trial”, run in atrocious weather conditions. One article said there was continuous heavy  rain leaving many roads almost unnavigable. There was also “low temperatures, driving rain squalls, fog and sleet.”

Through all this, the Fords came out victorious, taking out the top four placings, with Frank Kilfoyle and Mike Flanagan victorious in their Falcon by more than half an hour from team mates Harry Firth and Graham Hoinville in a Cortina.

A full report was given in Australian Motor Sport.

In 2023, the Melbourne University Car Club conducted a 60th anniversary touring event following the route, where possible, of the 1963 Akademos Trial. See the page for that event here.
