1963 VTC Round 1 – Caltex Begonia Rally dominated by Ford
The opening round of the 1963 state championship, the Caltex Begonia Rally, was dominated by Ford, with Geoff Russell victorious in a Cortina, followed by Harry Firth (Cortina), Frank Kilfoyle (Falcon) and Don Opie (Anglia). The event was reported in Australian Motor Sports.
As noted in the AMS report, the results were subject to protest against the provisional first placegetter. We don’t have event results but the Begonia Rally Honour Board at the Ballarat Light Car Club lists Firth and Hoinville as the winners, so it appears the protest was successful.
