1965 Akademos

The Akademos Rally, organissed by the Melbourne University Car Club, was held on May 29.

VTC Round 2 – 1965 Akademos Rally

This was the fourth occasion that the Akademos was a round of the Victorian Trials Championship and was again directed by Geoff Sproat with assistance from Geoff Thomas and Dave Ferguson. It was described as a vert tough event run in wet conditions.

The event was convincingly won by Bruce Woodfull and Bob Forsyth in a Cortina GT. The results were dominated by the factory entries from Ford and VW. The Holden Trials Team cars of McPherson and Watson both had problems, placing 11th and 12th respectively,

Route

The event started in Pakenham and headed through the Gembrook forest past warburton and up to McMahons Creek, Cumberland Junction and up through Jamieson for a mealbreak in Mansefield. The second half of the 330 mile event took in Mount Samaria and the Strathbogies before heading back through the Murrindindis to the finish at Healesville.
