The 1966 Experts Trial, organised by the Light Car Club of Australia, was held on July 2.
VTC Round 3 – 1966 LCCA Experts Trial
Despite heavy rain and extremely treacherous roads, this was perhaps not the most challenging of the many Experts Trials. Conducted in the Eastern hill country, the event was won by Ray Christie and Joe Dunlop in a VW 1600.
The factory Ford Cortina of Firth/Hoinville had to settle for fourth while the best placed Holden was sixth placed Reg Lunn and Geoff Thomas who ran out of petrol at one stage. Watson/McAuliffe nudged a tree and holed the radiator of their HR Holden while the other team Holden of Roberts/Davis became bogged for an extended period, eventually finishing eleventh.
