The Two Day Trial was held on 6 September.
1970 VTC Round 5 – VADC Two Day Trial
Thirty four entries started the Two Day Trial, in an event that was considered to be relatively easy, as the very low point scores demonstrated.
From the start at Alexandra, crews headed north up Maintongoon Road towards Bonnie Doon. Then a quick run through Ancona and Merton, then towards Strathbogie where a number of cars sustained damage along a very rough and rocky strip of road just before Control.
Graham Alexander / Peter Haas had a few issues and dropped a bunch of points on the run to Lima.
From Lurg the field led to a break at Winton Raceway, where the leaders, Creed / Sharpley and Watson / McAuliffe had both clean sheeted with Robertson / Bonhomme on 2 points and McInnes and Forsyth on 5 points.
A muddy maze caught out a few crews on the eastern boundary of Stanley Plantation, including Rex Lunn / John Hall in their V6 Capri.
After a refuel at Wodonga, the field moved west to Rutherglen, then via a route chart containing three average speeds to north of Springhurst. The route continued through the Warby Ranges and back to Winton, where Watson / McAuliffe had still not lost any points!
The final Division was down the Great Dividing Range through challenging territory with Colin Wilson / Tony Wunderlich and John Wardell / John Hocking putting up equal quickest time with Matt Philip / Mike Mitchell just behind in the little Colt.
Quickest time on the last stage was Richard Creed in his GTR Torana despite being locked in 3rd gear!
A report appeared in October Unicar.
