1974 Autumn Midnight Trial

The Autumn Midnight Trial was held on May 18.

1974 CCRMIT Autumn Midnight Trial

From a start near Kyneton, an assembly stage took crews to the competitive start west of Newstead. An easy section then headed into the forests around Maryborough where the remainder of the event was conducted as a mix of navigation and some route charted section, mostly in the Paddy Ranges. As the first event directed by Ian Richards, it was sometimes credited with the use of a “central control” concept as crews returned to a central service point three times, including the finish.

Despite the seemingly straightforward navigation, only the winners, Rob Dyer and Graham Wallis in their Peugeot 404, completed the event without a WD or missed passage.
