This year saw the end of the Torana era and the emerging dominance of Datsun. It was also the arrival of a name little known on the east coast, Western Australian Ross Dunkerton and navigator John Large. They scored consistently in their 260Z, with three wins and two seconds to wrap up the series with one round spare. Which was fortunate, because they destroyed the car on the final round, the Alpine. Stewart McLeod and Adrian Mortimer were once again runners-up, now also in a Datsun 260Z.
