The Classic Rally was held on April 12.
VCS Round 3 – 1975 GMHMC Classic Rally
The Classic Rally was again run in South Gippsland and directed by Gary Hawkins on behalf of the General Motors Holden Motoring Club. Sponsored by Head Mod, it was promoted as a drivers’ event with straight forward navigational mapping.
Sensibly, the rally was confined to a fairly small area, with loops running out of a central control.
Doug Irish and Ian Ellis won their first ever outright victory in their Gil Davis prepared XU-1.
They were the only crew to score consistent points in these first few events and were emerging as favourites to take this year’s Victorian Clubman title.
Peter Evans produced a strong result with second outright, followed home by Rob Lobban in his recently upgraded, big engined Datsun 1600.
