The Ready Plan Rally was postponed from its original mid April date and was held on August 10-13.
CCRMIT Ready Plan Rally
The Ready Plan Rally was the second of two long distance rallies organised by the CCRMIT, the first being the 1977 Datsun Riverland Rally. Directed by Ian Richards, the open event ran over four days, starting and finishing in Echuca, with an overnight stop in Mildura. The event was convincingly won by Geoff Portman and Ross Runnalls.
The event attracted a small but quality field, including the “celebrity” entry of Peter Brock in the MHDT Gemini, navigated by Noel Richards, who finished second.
Extreme wet weather in the months prior to the event saw significant parts of the event cancelled or re-routed, particularly in the Murray River forests between Echuca and Swan Hill, which were completely flooded.
