1984 Enka-Fill Alpine Rally

The Enka-Fill Alpine, organised by the Light Car Club of Australia and directed by Steve Hollowood and Stuart Lister, was held on 24-25 November. It was held in the traditional North-East Victoria region, based in Bright.

Australian Rally Championship Round 6

After over 5½ hours of competitive driving, privateers David and Kate Officer in a Mitsubishi Galant beat George Fury and Monty Suffern in a Datsun 120Y by 59 seconds. Third a further 8 minutes back were Murray Coote and Iain Stewart in a Datsun 1200 turbo.

It was a narrow victory in the national title for the Officers in this dual Group G/PRC championship. Ed Mulligan and Geoff Jones in a PRC Mazda RX7 finished a close second on points after finishing second PRC in the Alpine. It was also a lucky win for the Officers on the Alpine because Fury had lost over 3 minutes with an “off” on the Saturday and several other fancied crews had accidents or mechanical failures.

Numerous event reports are available on the Alpine rally website here. There is also an excellent gallery of event photos on the Alpine website.
