The Akademos Rally, organised by the Melbourne University Car Club and directed by Peter Otzen, was held on 24 May.
The winners were Andrew and Philip Martin in their Galant, with Alan Friend/Horton Poulter second and Geoff Portman/Peter Gale an unusual third. Portman had lead the event until the second last stage when the lights failed. Holding a two minute lead they waited for the next car and then followed them. dropping only two places!
