The Alpine Rally, organised by the Light Car Club of Australia, was held on November 22-23. The event was sponsored by BP and directed by Stuart Lister.
Australian Rally Championship Round 6
The ARC was still hanging in the balance with the Alpine as the final round. Victorians, Dinta and Kate Officer in their Mitsubishi Starion were second on points and needed a win, as we well as series leader Barry Lowe in the Subaru RX Turbo only needing to finish no lower than fourth in Group A to win the title.
At the finish George Fury and Mick Harker in the Group G Datsun 120Y were declared winners but they were subsequently excluded for missing a visual route check on SS33. The Officers won the event but Lowe finished seventh outright and fourth in Group A to win the title. Because Lowe had two different navigators, Kate Officer was crowned the 1986 Australian Rally Champion navigator.
