1989 Esanda Finance International Rally of Canberra

The Esanda Finance International Rally of Canberra was held on November 17-19.

Australian Rally Championship Round 6

Ross Dunkerton and Fred Gocentas (Galant VR4) spoiled the almost perfect season of Greg Carr and Mick Harker taking the win in Carr’s home event by more than 2 minutes. The ARC had already been confirmed for Carr and Harker, as had been the Manufacturers Award for Lancia. Dunkerton had been campaigning the Galant VR4 in the APRC having taken wins that year in Indonesia and Malaysia. The 1988 Australian champions, Murray Coote and Iain Stewart, finished a distant third but confirmed their second place in the 1989 championship. In sixth place was another up and coming driver to watch – Neal Bates.
