The BP Alpine Rally, organised by the LCCA, was held on 27 – 29 April. For the first time in more than a decade Stuart Lister was directly involved in the event’s organisation. The new Director was Simon Brown, assisted by Gordon Douglas and Ron Harper. With BP sponsorship, the event once again started from BP Somerton on the Friday afternoon and subsequently based out of the Lake Hume Resort.

The ARC round was convincingly won by George Fury and Ross Runnalls in a Galant VR4, a margin of 6 minutes to second placed Ed Ordynski and Mark Nelson in a similar car.
VRC crews in PRC cars could enter the ARC round also (both event followed the same route). David Greig and Paul Tirant in their Datsun 280Z finished fifth in the ARC round and won the VRC round.
