1991 Akademos Rally

The Akademos Rally, organised by the Melbourne University Car Club and directed by Darryl Otzen, was held on May 25.

Victorian Rally Championship Round 3

Gary Kendrick and Ron Gottschalk brough the Commodore home first by more than a minute from the Commodore of Allan “Haystack” Johnson with stand-in Co-driver Geoff Byron. Ged Beckton had a great run with Ross Runnalls calling the way, finishing third in their Laxer TX3, just 9 seconds back. Title contenders Peter Fyfe and Gerry Bashford failed to make the start in their Nissan Pulsar GTi-R.

Route

The Akademos was again based out of Bairnsdale with the daylight stages entirely to the north in the forests around Bullumwaal. The night stages headed into the forests north of Bruthen, on both sides of the Omeo Highway.
