The Maroondah Historic Rally, conducted by the Historic Rally Association, was held on 5 June.
The start was at the Chirnside Park Shopping Centre and it headed generally north-east from there. The event combined a concourse at the start, untimed touring stages, principally in daylight, timed forest sections, predominantly at night, an average speed section and a motorkhana at the lunch stop. Something for all!
The one timed stage in daylight sounds challenging even by modern standards. 4 minutes were allowed for 3.7km, with 2 gates to be opened and closed and the warning “some parts of this section are rough with dangerous crests – please drive accordingly”.
