With one round remaining, Neal Bates and Coral Taylor brought the Celica home to a solid win in the Coffs Harbour Rally. Wayne Hoy and Andrew Bennett finished second, more than a minute behind, bettering their third places in Queensland and Tasmania. But the championship remained wide open with Michael Guest and David Green finishing third and Ed Ordynski and Mark Stacey fourth. Guest/Green and Ordynski were now tied on 870 points heading into the final round, but each had six results whereas Bates/Taylor had 750 points from only four results. Ordynski/Stacey were confirmed as the Group N champions.
