The Ballarat Sprint Rally, organised by the Ballarat Light Car Club, was held on 20 April. A sprint rally is a special stage rally conducted over a shorter competitive distance than is typical for a rally. This was a “closed to club” event, meaning entry was restricted to members of BLCC and invited clubs.
Winners were Simon and Susan Evans, the only grade 1 crew, in a Datsun 1600, 10 seconds ahead of grade 2 crew Chris Lowe and Philip Messer in a Commodore V8. Lowe/Messer were leading after 2 stages but Evans gained the lead in stage 3 and held it to the finish. Third were Trevor and Kimberley Woods in a Datsun 1600, over 2 minutes further back.
