1997 Alpine Trial

The 1997 Alpine, organised by the Albury Wodonga District Car Club and directed by Gordon Douglas, was held on 12 April. A stage by stage description of how the event progressed is provided within the results (available below).

Unusually, the Alpine was a club trial this year. Maybe as a result of that, there were only 11 entries with 10 starters. The winners were Terry Naish and Ross Runnalls, despite having a broken throttle cable and having to operate the throttle using an octopus strap through the firewall! They were well clear of Graham Wallis and  Phil Nicholas with John Rawson and Dave Smith third.

Four of the five competitive sections were conducted in the Koetong area with several sections in the pines. A huge loop to the east from the Nariel Valley and back to Shelley constituted the longest stage of the event and the majority of the competitive kilometres.
