The North Eastern Rally, organised by the North Eastern Car Club and directed by Mark Sullivan, was held on October 18.

It looked like a win for Graeme Wise and Rob Beekman in their Ford Sierra by 50 seconds from Ashlea James and Brendan Clough in a Mazda RX2. But Wise and Beekman were then excluded for serving in a non-service area. A protest by Wise resulted in them being reinstated but a subsequent State Council Investigatory Tribunal re-imposed the exclusion.
