The Guys Versus Gals Trial, organised by a club yet to be identified, was a club event held on 13 June. Sponsored by Autosport, we guess it was Autosport proprietor John Roberts’ way of encouraging female participation in rally competition.
Ultimately, only 5 crews had female crew members. Car 25, with Lisa Harris navigating, finished 10th and car 39 with Sarah Waters navigating finished 18th. The best all “Gals” crew was Jenny Tirant and Susie Bellmont in a Datsun 120Y who finished 29th. Tanya Condon was 30th and Jenny Cole 32nd, both as navigators. Deborah and Bree Hoffrichter, another all girl crew, were 33rd. Penny Swan (driver), Melissa Curry and Silvia Jarvie (Navigators) didn’t finish.
The outright winners were Neil and Chris Schey in a Commodore VC. Nick and Peter Whiteley in a Datsun 180B were 2nd with Ron Tyzzer and Dennis Billings 3rd in a Subaru WRX.
