1998 Longest Night Rally

The Longest Night , sponsored by Porter’s paints and organised by the HRA, was an untimed navigational club rally held on 27/28 June. The director was Phil Nicholas. As per the name, the event ran from sunset almost to sunrise.

The winners were Rob and Pam Knight who missed no “informations”. Three crews were equal second, Doug Fernie/Robin Smalley, Bruce Wilson/Graeme Vaux and Rob Dyer/Graham Wallis, all missing one “information”. First grade 4/5 were Ron Verschuur and Randela Barnes.

Route

The event started and finished at the Westmeadows Tavern, near Melbourne airport. The route took competitors north-west out of Melbourne to finish the first section in Daylesford. The second section ended at Carlsruhe and crews then headed to the finish.
