The Whiteknuckles Trial, organised by the North Eastern Car Club, was held on 16 May. Directed by Ross Runnalls, the event also had an Historic category for HRA members.
The winners were John Rawson and Martin Warneke in a Datsun Stanza. They were just over 3 minutes ahead of Peter Whitten and G Day in a Ford Escort with Alan Upton and Mark Laidlay almost 2 minutes further back in third place in a Datsun Sunny.
