The Djerriwarrh Rally, organised by the Melton Motor Sports Club and directed by Dan Murphy, was held on November 13.
Round 6 Victorian Rally Championship
With all three VRC championships – outright, 2WD and Novice – undecided, the final round was always going to be a fiercely fought event. Scott Pedder and Paul Humm (Lancer) held a slender points lead but could be overtaken by Adams/Stewart, as well as Darren Windus and Sam Vaughan, all in Subarus. Pedder and Humm placed a “safe” fifth outright to take the championship by just a point and half from Adams and Stewart whose championship hopes were arguably dashed by non-championship contenders Neil Cuthbert and Jamie Sargeant taking the win in their Subaru. Windus failed to finish with a broken gearbox.
The 2WD championship was finely balanced between Mark Miller and Joe Brick (Escort), Brian Semmens and David Leoncini (Corolla) and Chris Lowe and Rachel Bruty (Commodore). Although Lowe and Bruty took the round win, Miller’s second place was sufficient to take the title while Semmens and Leoncini’s fourth place gave Leoncini the co-driver’s title.
The Novice award went to David Schneiders and Michael Stiglich (Commodore) who placed second in grade behind Scott Innes and Craig Hardiman (Subaru). Shane Smith and Colin Miller (Escort) placed fourth in grade and just missed out on the VRC Novice award.
