2003 Akademos Rally

The Akademos was conducted by the Melbourne University Car Club and was postponed from its traditional May date to November 15, becoming the final VRC round for 2003. The Director was MUCC stalwart, Peter Otzen.

Victorian Rally Championship Round 5

The second “modern” Akademos returned to the Snobs – Blue Range area with its service base at Thornton, and this year, perhaps because of the date in mid November, was held predominantly in daylight.

With the VRC already won by Mike Reeves and Robin Smalley, it appears that they did not start the Akademos, while second in the VRC, Mark Fawcett and Kylie Evans, failed to finish. The event was won by Peter and Chris Montgomery in their Subaru, lifting them to third in the VRC.

The 2WD championship was still up for grabs between Brian Shand / Geoff Floyd in the Starion and Andrew Vibert / David Gallacher in the Corolla. Shand failed to finish while Vibert and Floyd took the 2WD win and the title. Matthew and Adam Douglas finished first Clubman and first Novice to claim both awards for 2003.
