2023 Mitta Mountain Rally

The 2023 Border Oils & Batteries Mitta Mountain Rally was held on March 4th and was organised by the North Eastern Car Club in conjunction with the Albury Wodonga and District Car Club.

Victorian Rally Championship Round 1
Victorian Club Rally Series Round 1
NSW Rally Championship Round 1
East Coast Classic Rally Series Round 1

The Mitta Mountain Rally is a blind event, i.e. no recce and no pace notes.

The event was won by the NSW crew of Tim Wilkins and Jim Gleeson in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9. The VRC round was won by Tim and Leonie Clark in a Subaru Impreza WRX.

In contrast to the previous year, the Mitta Mountain Rally was run in dry and dusty conditions. The event was marred by a serious incident on SS2. Reigning VRC champions Adrian Stratford and Kain Manning left the road 4.7 km from stage end at speed, and rolled many times. Ambulance, CFA and SES were called in to take the roof off the car and extract the crew in their seats. They were airlifted to Melbourne for medical treatment.

Route

The event was to be conducted over 6 special stages around the town of Mitta Mitta. The major incident on SS2 resulted in both SS2 and SS3 being cancelled. As a consequence, Heat 1 of the VRC round comprised only SS1. Heat 2 comprised SS4, SS5 and SS6. The VCRS round did not include SS6.
