The George Derrick, organised by the CCRMIT, was held on 1 February.
The Derrick was the first round of the 1997 Victorian Club Rally Series. The winners were Ross and Ashley Fraser in a VC Commodore. Michael Morris and Geoff Floyd were second, also in a Commodore with David Smart and Robin Smalley third in a Datsun 1600. All placegetters were grade 2 drivers.
The best grade 3 driver was Richard McNay, 4th outright in a Toyota Sprinter and navigated by Michael Cains. The grade 4 winners were David Wellings and Jacqui Cole in a Datsun 1600, finishing 7th outright.
