Route

The two day event comprised 31 special stages totalling 270 km with two cancelled, losing only 9 km.

The event started with a dash along Adelaide’s Memorial Drive then headed to gravel stages to the north-east with service at Mount Pleasant and Truro. Several stages were run twice, one three times. Night stages headed back to Adelaide with three tarmac stages in the Lofty Ranges close to the city.

Sundays stages were to the east around Callington and Mannum after which they returned to a spectator special stage in Oaklands Park in the south Adelaide suburb of Marion.

As was usual in South Australia, the speeds were very high – the winner’s average being 112 km/h.
