With 300 points on offer for the winner of the final round, three crews could take the title. Guest/Green were on 870 but had six results already so were effectively on 770, effectively needing the otehr two contenders to DNF in order to win the title. Bates/Taylor were on 750 and Dunkerton/Gocentas with two wins were was on 600, needing to win and for Bates/Taylor to finish lower than fourth. Ordynski was not competing despite being mathematically able to win the title. Guest slid off the road on SS3 and late in the event dropped a valve, ending his title chances. Bates brought the new Celica home in second, 3 minutes behind Dunkerton, after losing second gear in the Celica. It was Dunkerton’s final run in the works Galant.
