1996 Victorian Club Rally Series

Here we can see what happened during the 1996 Victorian Club Rally Series.

The outright winners were David Smart and Geoff Floyd in a Datsun 1600. Winners of the novice series were Nick and Peter Whiteley.

The winning club was the Ford Four Car Club on 975 points, with NCCA second and CCRMIT third.

Series Regulations

These were specified in the VCRS Standing Regulations (not yet available).

Awards were made for outright champions and Novice. There were also car class awards as follows: 2WD up to 1300cc, 2WD 1301-1600cc, 2WD 1601-2000cc, 2WD over 2000cc and 4WD all capacities.

Outright and Novice points were allocated 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 for first to  tenth. Bonus points were available (the + column), presumably  for being an event organiser. Class points were allocated 9-6-4-3-2-1. With ten events, competitors counted their best eight results. There was also a Formula Commodore award.

Events

The VCRS  ultimately comprised six events this year. The TCV Trial was calendared as Round 2 but was cancelled. The Boomerang Trial was calendared as Round 6 but was cancelled due to withdrawal of permission to use roads. The Nissan Nightmoves was calendared in April but was postponed to August.

We don’t yet have the table of points for outright, novice and classes published in 1996. However, results as compiled by the editor of Unicar are in the December edition of Unicar. 

Class Awards

2WD under 1300cc: Benny Marson (Datsun 120Y, NCCA) and Michael Seidler (Honda Civic, MUCC) were equal winning drivers. Rob Pickthall (Marson’s navigator) was the winning navigator.

2WD 1300-1600cc: Brian Shand and Mick Dalton (both FFCC) in a Mitsubishi Lancer.

2WD 1600-2000cc: David Smart & Geoff Floyd (both CerbCC)

2WD over 2000cc & Formula Commodore: Keith Cuttle (HSCCV) and Susan Brick (WDCC) in a Holden Commodore

4WD: Andrew Hollole and Rob Hunter, both FFCC, in a Subaru Leone
