The Maroondah Historic Rally, organised by the HRA, was held on 29 May. Clerk of Course was Steve Young and principal sponsor Performance Exhaust. The event was run in wet conditions in the forests to the north-east of Melbourne, starting in Buxton and finishing in Glenburn. The event was round 2 of the HRA Rally Championship.
The first two placegetters in both overall and outright classifications were Doug Fernie and Robin Smalley in a Datsun Bluebird and Paul McLaughlan and Geoff Floyd in a Volvo 142. Rob Dyer and Martin Warneke were third overall but didn’t qualify for outright positions, so Graham Wallis and Phil Nicholas were third outright in a Peugeot 404.
